How to Play The Oracle of Success

The Oracle of Success is a decision-making and self-reflection game. You play in a group, but each turn belongs to one player and one Oracle. Every round is shaped by the question asked, the cards drawn, and the insights revealed.

Before you begin, lay out the four types of cards:

- Black card (instruction card) It contains a QR code linking to the full rules. Place it face up on the table.

- Red cards (modality cards) Spread them out or use the designated Modality space on the board.

- Blue cards (category cards) These define the theme of each question. Place them in their area.

- Green cards (oracle cards) The 64 answers at the heart of the game.

Now you’re ready to play. Each player takes a full turn by following these 8 steps:

1. Pick a Modality Card

This tells you how your question will be asked.

Will you speak it aloud? Keep it private? Ask for someone else to choose it?

The Modality Card sets the tone. Draw this first and follow its instructions for the entire turn.

2. Pick a Category Card and Choose Your Oracle

Draw a Category Card to reveal what part of life your question should focus on.

There are eight themes, like Love, Career, Family, or Purpose. Each Category Card includes a sample question. You can always ask that question, or use it as inspiration to create your own.

Once you know the category, choose someone at the table to be your Oracle.

You can pick someone who understands the topic, or someone you trust.

You will draw each card, look at it first, and then hand it to your Oracle — they will read it aloud and guide your turn.

3. Ask a Question

Take a moment. Breathe. Ask your question aloud if the Modality allows, or hold it silently in your mind.

Your question must follow two simple rules:

- It must be a yes/no question — answerable with a clear “Yes,” “No,” or “Maybe.”

- It must be positively framed — a “Yes” should feel good to receive (for example: “Should I move?” or “Am I open to true love?” makes a positive card feel positive. Avoid questions like “Am I being selfish?” where “Yes” might feel bad.)

That’s it. You’re free to ask whatever you want as long as you respect your modality card.

4. Pick an Oracle Card

Draw your first Oracle Card from the green deck, look at it, then hand it to your Oracle. They will read the card aloud: title, lesson, and recommendation. This is your starting point. Let the message land. Discuss or reflect as needed.

You can also use an expansion deck here:

- Use the Vortex Oracle for spiritual or self-development questions.

- Use the Oracle of Well-being for health-related topics.

5. Ask a Follow-Up Question

This is not optional. The Oracle always speaks in threes. One card is never the full story. Every turn includes three Oracle Cards — drawn one after another. After each card, the player must ask a follow-up question. It’s how the message unfolds, and how the game gets truly powerful.

Here’s an example of how it plays out:

You’re asking about your big project. Maybe it’s a dream launch, a bold career move, or a secret plan to quit your job and open a goat sanctuary.

- You ask: “Will it succeed?”

- You draw your first card: Bankruptcy – No, not now or anytime soon.

Ouch. The whole room freezes. If this were a one-card game, you'd be devastated.

But it's not.

- You pause, breathe, and ask a follow-up: “Can I change something to make it a success?”

- You draw your second card: Jackpot – Yes, absolutely, right now.

The whole story changes. The Oracle didn’t contradict itself, it responded to your shift. Now everyone’s waiting to hear the final twist. What do you ask next?

This is the magic of the follow-up. The Oracle gives you room to grow, react, and turn things around, but only if you keep asking.

How to ask a great follow-up:

If the card was negative:

  • Ask what you can change or approach differently.

  • Rephrase your question with a fresh mindset.

  • Explore an alternative you didn’t take seriously.

  • Ask what’s blocking you or how to remove the resistance.

If the card was positive:

  • Ask what the next right step might be.

  • Check if there’s anything you’re missing or forgetting.

  • Explore how to keep the momentum going.

  • Let the conversation evolve. You’re not looking for a final verdict — you’re building a deeper understanding, one card at a time.

6. Pick a Second Oracle Card

Draw your second card and give it to your Oracle.

It builds on your follow-up. Sometimes it confirms the direction. Sometimes it redirects everything.

This is often where the Oracle’s voice becomes clearest.

7. Ask Another Follow-Up Question

After the second card, you ask one final follow-up — this sets up your third and last card of the round. By now, you’ve uncovered a deeper layer of the situation. This final question often feels different, it can move beyond yes/no and into reflection, timing, or intention.

Special Option 1: Open questions

This is the only moment in the game when you may ask an open-ended question.

You can still ask yes/no if you want to stay direct — but open questions are allowed here.

When you ask an open question:

- You must ignore the yes/no part of the third card.

- Instead, focus on the card’s title, lesson, and recommendation.

Let the message speak freely, without trying to reduce it to a yes or no.

Note: If you’re using an expansion deck (The Vortex Oracle or Oracle of Well-being), open questions are allowed at any time — not just for the third card.

Special Option 2: A/B/C Format

The third card can also be used for multiple choice. Instead of asking a follow-up, you list three options — aloud or silently (depending on your Modality card). Then, you draw three cards at once, one for each option. Compare them.

The strongest card points to the best choice or most aligned possibility at this time. Weak or challenging cards might suggest what to avoid or postpone.

This version of the final card is especially useful when you’re choosing between clear paths: three projects, three places to move, three ways to respond.

Whether you go open-ended or multiple choice, the third card gives your reading a shape, a direction, or a final echo. It’s where everything comes together or where a new question begins.

8. Pick a Third Oracle Card

Draw your final card and give it to your Oracle. It brings closure, confirmation, or one last surprise.

It’s where your reading completes or reveals what comes next. Let the message settle. Sometimes clarity is instant. Sometimes it arrives later.

That’s a Full Turn:

- Each player takes one full turn.

- The Oracle role rotates clockwise.

- Play once per person, or keep going as long as the questions keep coming.

The Oracle always knows. You just have to ask.
